The impact of Lipica has been far greater than its size would suggest. This tiny village lives for and on its white Lipizzaner horses, which were first bred here for the Spanish Riding School in Vienna in the late 16th century

The Lipica Stud Farm is the birthplace of all Lipizzaner horses in the world. The over 400 year tradition of breeding these white horses (its rich history reaching back to the year of 1580) has been preserved to the present day in the centre of the unique Karst landscape and represents one of the most beautiful natural, historical and cultural monuments of Slovenia.

In 1996 the Lipica Stud Farm was declared a cultural monument of outstanding importance for the Republic of Slovenia by adopting the Act on Stud Farm Lipica.

The protected territory of the Lipica Stud Farm, which is as a part of monumental whole under special protection, consists of a cultivated Karst landscape, a herd of horses of Lipizzan breed and the architectural and art heritage.
