You will be comfortably escorted in an air-conditioned minivan to visit one of the most beautiful, charming and enchanting wine countries. The tour starts at 9:00 am SHARP from your hotel or from a designated point (please be at least 10 minutes early).
With slightly more than 35 minutes ride, we will start off the day with a tour of one of the largest and oldest wine cellars in Slovenia. While walking among the wooden barrels, our guide will share with you the story of the creation of the wine cellar and explain the production process of the cellar finest wines. The tour together with wine tasting lasts for about an hour. Opportunity to purchase and ship Vipava's wines worldwide.
Our next stop is at local winemaker’s cellar accompanied by a wine tasting of the winery's wonderful selection of great wines. The wine cellar has been in the winemakers family for four generations. Members of the family have been carrying over their love for soil and wine as well as their respect for wine from generation to generation.
So, it is time for our second winery visit where we will taste and learn about wine & about the ageing of wines.
A short ride passing through orchards and vineyards, brings us to villa Vipolže. It is the most beautiful Renaissance villa in Slovenia and the new heart of cultural tourism, exhibitions and events in the Brda region. The manor is located on the edge of the slope with vineyards at the edge of the Brda hills. In the park that surrounds the villa, groups of rare trees have been preserved, including magnificent old cypresses, which are among the tallest in Slovenia.
It is time for lunch now. After enjoying villas and spectacular vineyard views we will proceed to a special winery that offers organic wines from their own cellar and locally produced homemade food. The owners are winemakers who produce organic wines since decades. We'll stop there for a lunch and taste local culinary specialities togethet with tasting of Brda wines.
We continue our journey to Dobrovo, where we visit the Renaissance mansion from the early 17th century with a permanent exhibition of world famous painter Zoran Mušič. Dobrovo Castle is almost a perfect square with square turrets on each corner and remains today much like it was when built. Inside is a restaurant, wine cellar and shop stocking wines from the Brda region.
Medieval village of Šmartno. Typical Mediterranean village is one of the best preserved villages in the coastal region. We explore the narrow streets, called “gase” in a the local dialect, visit the majestic church of St. Martin, ethnological museum Briška hiša, Brda house, and the House of culture.
The trip in Brda ends by the lookout tower in Gonjače where we descend by foot. A 23 m high lookout tower with 144 stairs. It was built in 1961 and it represents the central point of Brda. When the sky is clear, you can enjoy the breathtaking view over the whole Brda region and of all four points of the compass: the Julian and Carnian Alps, as well as the Dolomites to the North, the Friulian plain to the West, the Adriatic Sea and the Karst to the South, and the Trnovo forest and the Vipava Valley to the east.
We'll return home with full bellies, a happy heart and great memories, just in time for dinner. After a wonderful day of sightseeing, you will be dropped off at your hotel or at your pick up point.
